Waterville, ME-The Castleton State College men's ice hockey team suffered its second loss of the weekend, dropping a 6-3 ECAC East contest at Colby College. Michael Belliveau and T.J. Kelley both had two goals and two assists to lead the Mules to the victory.
The Mules are 3-2 overall. Castleton falls to 1-4-1.
After a scoreless first period, Belliveau scored the first two goals of the game at 3:37 and 5:45 of the second period. The second goal was the first of two Colby goals on the power play.
Steve Culbertson made it 2-1 when he scored at the 10-minute mark for the Spartans.
The Mules, though, went ahead 4-1 after two periods on a power play goal by Kelley and the first collegiate goal for first-year forward Billy Crinnion.
The teams traded four goals in the third period. Brandon Heck scored 3:59 into the period to make it 4-2, but the Mules bounced back when Kelley got his second goal at 5:47.
Matthew Link cut the lead to two again with a goal at 11:28 for the Spartans. However, Colby held off the charge and got an empty net goal from Mike Butler in the final minute.
Cody McKinney (Weston, Fla.) stopped 16 shots for Colby and improved to 3-0 this season.
Castleton returns to action on Friday, December 7 when they travel to Cortland State for a 7:00 pm non-conference game.
