Castleton, VT-The Castleton State College men's hockey team won their third straight contest, defeating conference foe, Connecticut College 7-3. The Spartans skated out to a 3-1 lead after the first 20 minutes, and held a 6-2 edge entering the third period.
Ross Carmichael opened the scoring two minutes into the first period on the power-play. Jeff Lazeren tallied the second goal 10 minutes later, and Evan Romeo tacked on number three of the period just before the 15 minute mark. The Camels would get one back before the end of the period when Sean Driscoll sent home a Walt Wright pass.
Joe Huchko scored the game winner just 14 seconds into the second period, converting on the power-play. Huchko would have a big day for the Spartans scoring a pair of goals and adding a pair of assists. Brandon Heck also added a pair of goals and two assists for the 8-3-3 (4-2-3 ECAC East) Spartans. Connecticut College's Ryan Howarth and Brett Moore rounded out the scoring for the game.
Jeff Swanson stopped 19 shots for Castleton in the win. Danny Beauregard recorded 27 saves in the loss for the Camels. With the loss Connecticut falls to 5-8-1 and 4-5 in conference play. Castleton will return to the ice next Friday when they travel to Hamilton for a 7:00 face-off. The Camels return home next Friday to play host to Colby in 7:00 league action.
