Rutland, VT- In the home opener, Castleton defeated Becker 6-2 Sunday to improve to 2-1-1. It marked for the first time in the program's history that the Spartans won consecutive games.
Andrew Scampoli of Becker scored the first goal of the game to give the Hawks the early lead. Travis Martell got Castleton on the board in the first to even the score before the first intermission. Castleton pulled away in the second period, outscoring Becker 4-1. Jeff Alexander gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead early in the second before Becker's Phil Pinkham evened the game at two. Brandon Heck scored his second goal of the season to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Spartans. Joe Huchko and Steve Culbertson added goals for Castleton within 30 seconds of each other finishing the scoring for the period. Culbertson netted his third goal of the season late in the third period to finish the scoring.
Castleton improves to 2-1-1 with the victory and will bring that record to the ice Friday night when they host Colby in ECAC East action. Becker falls to 1-7-1 and gets back into action Saturday December 2 when they host Fitchburg State.
