CASTLETON, Vt. – Juniors Kaylyn Crompton, Lydia Maier, Megan Greene, and freshman Emily Greene claimed the top four spots for the Spartan women's cross country team, as they went on to win the Castleton Invitational in a decisive manner.
Castleton set the bar with 19 points, followed by Green Mountain College with 60 points and SUNY Canton with 89 points to round out the top three. Southern Vermont College (97) and MCLA (119 points) rounded out the complete team scoring. New England College and SUNY Adirondack also had runners compete.
Crompton had a steady lead throughout the race, and her pace-setting time of 6:50/mile crossed her through the finish line in 21:14. L. Maier came in next as 22:17, followed by M. Greene (22:41) and E. Greene (23:13).
Emily Maier rounded out the scoring for Castleton. She finished ninth with a time of 24:48.
The Spartans will return to action on Saturday when they travel to North Dartmouth, Massachusetts for the U-Mass Dartmouth Invitational.
