Women's Cross Country Places Sixth at WNE Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Kaylyn Crompton captured a fifth-place finish to lead the Castleton women's cross country team to a sixth-place finish overall at the Western New England Invitational on Saturday.

Crompton crossed the line in 26:25, just seven seconds behind the fourth place finisher. Miranda Messeck earned a time of 28:22 to finish 22nd. Lydia Maier was the next Spartan to cross the finish line in 36th with a time of 29:29, just ahead of teammate Rachael Emery in 43rd place in 30:05. Ali Nelson rounded out Castleton's top five with a 51st place finish in 31:34.

Emily Maier earned a time of 33:53, while Adrienne Toof followed closely with a time of 34:53. Monica Connor clocked in at 35:05, and Lily Howard crossed the finish line with a time of 39:32.

98 total runners competed in the six-kilometer race. As a team, Castleton placed sixth with a score of 136 points, just eight points behind UMass-Dartmouth for fifth and 49 points ahead of North Atlantic Conference foe Lyndon State. With five runners inside the top 20, Westfield State captured the meet title with 54 points.

The Spartans are next in action Saturday, Oct. 28, when they travel to UMaine-Farmington for the NAC Championship.
