Spartans Take Second at Castleton Invitational

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's cross country team, backed by a pair of top 10 finishers, captured second place in the Castleton Invitational on Saturday morning.

Kaylyn Crompton led the Spartans to the finish line with a second-place finish overall after clocking in at 20:34. Miranda Messeck followed closely in seventh place with a time of 23:06.

Megan Greene was the next Spartan to cross the finish line in 17th with a time of 24:06. Rachael Emery and Ali Nelson finished back-to-back with respective times of 25:41 and 25:43, just ahead of teammate Bethany Alvarez, who finished with a time of 26:47.

The Spartans placed second as a team with a score of 67 points, behind team winner Albany College of Pharmacy with 45 points. Union rounded out the top three with a score of 78 points. 11 teams competed with a total of 66 runners in the five-kilometer race.

Castleton will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 16, for the UMASS-Dartmouth Invitational starting at 11:15 a.m.
