Spartans Host Castleton Invitational Saturday

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's cross country team looks to continue its strong start to the season when it hosts the Castleton Invitational on Saturday morning starting at 11 a.m. at the Spartans' home course on campus.

11 teams in total will compete in the women's five-kilometer race on Saturday, including North Atlantic Conference opponents New England College and Green Mountain. Union College, SUNY Canton, SUNY Adirondack, Southern Vermont, MCLA, Albany College of Pharmacy, Paul Smith's College, and St. Joseph's College will also compete.

The Spartans are coming off a second-place finish in the Southern Vermont Invitational last Saturday. Kaylyn Crompton paced the field to the finish line with a first-place time of 20:50 in the five-kilometer race, nearly two full minutes faster than second place. Freshman Megan Greene landed inside the top 10 with an eighth-place finish, just ahead of teammate Rachael Emery in 11th. 

Castleton placed second at last season' Castleton Invitational, finishing runner-up to Albany College of Pharmacy with 54 points as a team. Crompton captured the individual title with a time of 20:15. Miranda Messeck crossed the line in 14th with a time of 23:46. Southern Vermont rounded out the top three with 74 points as a team.
