Spartans Place Three in Top 25 at Western New England Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Castleton University women's cross country team placed three runners in the top 25 out of 242 total runners en route to a seventh place team finish consisting of 22 competing programs at the Western New England Invitational on Saturday morning. 

Kaylyn Crompton came to the finish line just seconds off the lead, completing the five-kilometer event with an impressive time of 19:31, placing her fourth overall. The freshman had a pace of 6:17 and was sandwiched between five runners from the University of New England as the Nor'easters took five of the top six positions. 

Elizabeth Bassette came away with a 15th place finish overall, continuing her strong season with a fourth top-25 finish. Bassette's time of 20:21 gave the Woodstock native a second place team finish for Castleton.

Molly O'Callaghan also enjoyed a top-25 performance, placing 24th overall with a time of 20:44. Miranda Messeck also finished in the top half of the pack, bringing home a 68th place finish. 

Rachael Emery, Bethany Alvarez, and Ali Nelson also participated in the meet for the Spartans, who finished in seventh place overall with a total of 190 points.

The University of New England brought home the team victory with a total of 17 points, while Roger Williams (126) and Westfield State (150) rounded out the top three with second and third place notches, respectively.

Castleton will return to action on Saturday, October 29 for the NAC Championship, held by Johnson State.
