Spartans Finish Second Overall with Three Runners in Top Ten

CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton women's cross country team placed second overall in today's Castleton Invitational with three runners placing in the top ten, including freshman Kaylyn Crompton taking first place for the second straight meet.  

The Spartans totaled 54 points on the day and trailed only Albany College of Pharmacy, who won the event with 48 total points. Crompton was sensational yet again, posting a time of 20:15 to lead the pack to the finish line. Elizabeth Bassette of Castleton followed closely behind with an eighth place finish and overall time of 21:41, while Molly O'Callaghan was right at her heels rounding out the top ten with a 22:14 time.

Other runners for the Spartans included Miranda Messeck finishing in 14th, Rachael Emery in 21st, Ali Nelson in 23rd, and Bethany Alvarez in 24th.

Albany College of Pharmacy took first place after having three runners place in the top ten, while Southern Vermont finished right behind Castleton with 74 total points. Rounding out the teams were New England (102), SUNY Canton (114), Johnson State (131), and Green Mountain (175).

Castleton returns to action at 12 p.m. next Saturday, Sept. 17, when the Spartans will participate in the UMASS-Dartmouth Invitational.
