Spartans to Compete in NCAA Regional

Castleton, Vt. – The Spartans conclude their season this weekend as they travel to NCAA Regionals at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Connecticut.

Castleton is coming off a 22nd place finish at ECAC Championships this past weekend in a field of 46 impressive teams, hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Sophomore Elizabeth Bassette was the first to cross the finish line for the Spartans, stopping the clock at 25:16, good for 75th place overall.

Freshman Haley Kennedy was the second finisher for the team with a time of 25:48, with classmate Molly O'Callaghan finishing third at 26:24.

Classmate Miranda Messeck recorded a fourth place finish for the squad, crossing the line at 27:07, and senior Caitlin Ryan rounded out the top five for Castleton with a time of 27:51.

Bassette and Kennedy have shared leading the Spartans this season, both being named North Atlantic Conference First Team All-Conference. Bassette has collected three top-10 finishes this season, including winning the Green Mountain Invitational, and was named the NAC Runner of the Week twice. Kennedy has garnered Rookie of the Week honors five times this season, and was the first Spartan finisher at NAC Championships with a time of 22:08.

Last season at this meet which was hosted by Williams College, Castleton finished 47th as a team, with Bassette finishing first for the Spartans, good for 137th overall in a time of 24:46. Kelsey Thompson was third for the team, finishing in 27:46, while Ryan was fourth, completing the course in 28:17.
