Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Match at SUNY-Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Castleton University volleyball team suffered a three-set road loss on Wednesday evening at SUNY-Cobleskill, falling 25-11, 25-3, 25-11 at Iorio Gymnasium.

The Spartans fall to 2-16 on the season, while Cobleskill moves to 4-15 with the win. Alondra Nims accounted for a trio of solo blocks on the day, while Gabrielle Carpenter and Ellie Frischmon added solo blocks of their own.

Shannon Manchester led the team with a pair of kills offensively and Brianna Hake added three assists and a kill. Brooke Young topped the team leaderboard with eight digs on the evening.

The Fighting Tigers' Jillian Nitchman had a match-high eight kills with a stellar .889 hitting percentage, while Rachel Burke had six kills of her own. Karyn Knaul, Jasmine Jack-Gomes and Megan Brewer had five kills apiece. Mikayla Catherman had an impressive 12 service aces in the match, with Knaul adding six more the Fighting Tigers.

Castleton returns home on Saturday for a homecoming-weekend matchup with Rhode Island College. The match is slated to start at 4:30 p.m.
