Spartans Drop Both Ends of Home Quad Match

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's volleyball team lost a pair of non-conference matches at home to MCLA (25-12, 25-12, 25-16) and Bay Path (25-19, 25-18, 25-15).

The quad match also featured Northern Vermont University – Lyndon. All four games were played over a two-block span at Castleton.

Following the action on Saturday, the Spartans record drops to 0-5. Castleton opens their Little East Conference (LEC) slate with a home match against UMass Boston on Friday.

 

MCLA 3, Castleton 0 

Shannon Manchester and Gabrielle Carpenter each contributed five kills and a solo block to lead the Spartan offense. Manchester also had two out of the four service aces for Castleton.

Meghan Zawatsky pitched in the other two aces. She also had 28 digs. Madison Hamelink finished with 23 digs, two assists, and two kills.

 

Bay Path 3, Castleton 0

Manchester and Carpenter led the offense again, with kill totals of five and four, respectively. Manchester also had three blocks.

Brianna Hake assisted on nine Spartan kills, while also collecting 13 digs. Zawatsky came through for a season-high 31 digs.

The Spartans put together a run in the third set, but the Wildcats were able to earn the final two points of the match to complete their sweep on the day. They defeated Lyndon in straight sets in their first match.
