COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Castleton University volleyball team fell to SUNY Cobleskill, 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-16), Wednesday night in a non-conference collegiate match at Iorio Gymnasium.
Shannon Manchester again led the Spartans with five kills and two total blocks, while Maria Jackson paced Castleton defensively with nine digs. Emily Potter led the Fighting Tigers with a double-double, earning 10 kills and 19 digs, and Mackenzie Holbert finished with seven kills, 15 assists, five service aces, and 12 digs.
SUNY Cobleskill (4-1) went on a 15-4 scoring run to open a nine-point advantage in the opening set, and Rachel Burke clinched the first set with a kill. The Fighting Tigers extended their second set advantage to 10 points with a 10-2 scoring run, and Karyn Knaul earned a service ace to help close out the second set.
The Fighting Tigers went on an 8-1 scoring run in the third set to pull ahead, 9-3, but a kill by Kimberly Jackson closed the Spartan deficit to four at 15-11. SUNY Cobleskill put together a 7-2 scoring run to extend its lead to nine points, and a Castleton attack error ended the set and the match in the home team's favor.
Castleton (0-4) heads to East Longmeadow, Mass., this Saturday, Sept. 9, for matches against MCLA at 12 noon and Bay Path at 2 p.m.
