CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University volleyball team looks to get back on the winning track when it hosts Green Mountain College Wednesday, Oct. 19, starting at 7 p.m. at Glenbrook Gym.
The Spartans hope to snap a three-match losing streak and solidify a spot in the upcoming NAC Volleyball Tournament when they face the Eagles. Castleton brings a 7-10 overall record into Wednesday's contest, including a 1-3 conference mark that has the Spartans currently in sixth place.
Cassidy Tedeschi continues to lead the Spartans with 138 kills and 17 total blocks, plus she has collected 29 service aces and 154 digs. Kimberly Jackson is sixth in the country in service aces per set at 0.83, earning 50 aces so far this season. With exactly 300 assists, Alex Madsen is 17 assists away from matching the school single season record she set last season, and J'Leen Diaz still leads Castleton defensively with 210 digs.
Green Mountain will be making its second trip to Castleton in the span of five days after participating in the conference quad-match hosted by the Spartans last Saturday. The Eagles were swept by both Maine Maritime and Colby-Sawyer to drop their overall record to 0-15 and their league mark to 0-4.
Torie Cowell leads Green Mountain with 57 kills, 20 service aces, and 14 total blocks, plus she has collected 61 digs. Madison Gillen has accumulated 57 assists and 72 defensive digs so far this season, leading the Eagles in both categories.
Castleton defeated Green Mountain in a non-conference match Sept. 17, 3-0, led by Diaz with nine kills, a .474 hitting percentage, four service aces, and seven digs. The Spartans have won 10 straight matches over the Eagles, including a 3-1 victory in the first round of the 2012 NAC Tournament. Green Mountain's last win over Castleton came in 2011.
