COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Castleton University volleyball team lost a non-conference match to SUNY Cobleskill, 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-22), Wednesday night at Iorio Gymnasium.
Cassidy Tedeschi led the Spartans with nine kills, plus she earned nine digs, while J'Leen Diaz once again led the team with 12 digs, the sixth consecutive match in which she reached double figures in digs. Alex Madsen finished with 18 assists and eight digs, and Kimberly Jackson contributed nine digs to the Castleton effort.
SUNY Cobleskill (8-14) slowly pulled away in the opening set, taking an 18-11 lead on a kill by Emily Potter before back-to-back attack errors by the Fighting Tigers closed their lead to four. A service ace by Gabby Clark brought about set point, and the home team would clinch the first set on a Spartan attack error.
The Fighting Tigers would go on a 9-1 scoring run early in the second set, led by Brittany Boyce with a kill and two service aces. SUNY Cobleskill would close out the set with a 9-4 scoring run, punctuated by a block by Katerina Weingarten.
The third set was the most competitive of the night, as Castleton scored four straight points to pull ahead 9-7. The Fighting Tigers responded with a 9-4 scoring run of their own, capped by a service ace from Emilie Reimer. Errors by SUNY Cobleskill brought the Spartans within one at 23-22, but a block by Reimer and a kill from Kasey Williams clinched the set and the match for the home team.
Castleton (7-8) plays its first home matches in over a month, taking on Colby-Sawyer at 12 noon and Maine Maritime at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, in NAC contests.
