CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University volleyball team welcomes the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill to Glenbrook Gym for a Tuesday night clash starting at 7 p.m.
After tonight's match, the Spartans will not enjoy the comforts of their home gym again until Oct. 15, playing 10 consecutive matches away from home over the next month. Castleton will play four of its final six regular season contests at Glenbrook Gym.
Castleton comes into tonight's match with a 1-3 overall record after suffering a tough five-set loss to Southern Vermont last Wednesday at Glenbrook Gym, losing the fifth set 15-13. J'Leen Diaz notched a double-double, leading the Spartans with 13 kills and 14 digs, while Cassidy Tedeschi contributed 11 kills, nine digs, and four service aces. Alex Madsen finished with 30 assists, and Kimberly Jackson added 11 digs, eight service aces, four kills, and two total blocks.
SUNY Cobleskill, a member of the North Eastern Athletic Conference, enters tonight's contest with a 3-1 overall record after losing to Hartwick College last Wednesday, 3-0.
So far this season, Emilie Reimer leads the Fighting Tigers with 29 kills, averaging 2.42 kills per set, plus she is third in digs with 31. Mackenzie Holbert has collected 89 assists so far this season. Kasey Williams is second on the team in both kills (25) and digs (32) to go along with a team-high five blocks. Of Rachel Sherman's team-high eight service aces, seven of them came against York College.
These two teams have met five times over the previous two seasons. In both matches hosted by Castleton, the Spartans have swept the Fighting Tigers. SUNY Cobleskill has won both matches it hosted as well as a neutral-site contest hosted by Green Mountain College in 2014, all by the score of 3-2.
