Albany, N.Y. – The Spartans ran into a potent Sage Colleges' women's volleyball team on Wednesday night, falling to the Gators in straight sets at Kahl Gym.
Sage topped Castleton 25-16, 25-14, 25-17 and in doing so extended its unbeaten streak to 12. Sage improved to 15-4 on the year, while Castleton dropped to 4-9 with the loss.
Castleton senior Kaylee Pratt had eight kills for the Spartans, while sophomore Brittany Brayman added 11 digs and had three kills. Junior outside hitter Amanda Chambers had three kills, two aces and had nine digs while Michaela Babineu had six assists and three digs.
Helen Putriment posted a double-double for the Gators with 12 kills and 15 digs, while adding an ace. Rachel Martin connected for 12 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Siena Wilder racked up six aces and five digs, while being perfect with her 11 receptions with no errors. Sophomore setter Rachel Liebeg led the Gators with 30 assists and also had six aces.
The Spartans return to action this weekend when they open conference play at Colby-Sawyer, with matches against Husson and Maine Maritime.
