CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Spartans came up short in a pair of matches this weekend, dropping a 3-0 decision to Rhode Island College and then falling 3-1 to host Elms in the final match of the day.
Castleton struggled in its opener against the Anchormen, dropping the first set 25-21 and then 25-9 in the second and 25-16 in the final set. J'Leen Diaz led the offense with five kills in the contest and had six digs. Amanda Chambers recorded a team-best 13 digs and had three kills while Michaela Babineau had eight assists and six digs.
The Spartan came out strong in their second match of the day, opening with a 25-22 victory. They fought hard in the second set and had game point at 25-24 and 26-25, but couldn't finish it off before eventually losing 29-27. Elms took control with a 25-16 win in the third set and finished off the match with a 25-20 victory in set four.
Brittany Brayman led the team with 11 kills and 13 digs as the Spartans totaled a season-high 99 digs. In the contest. Six different players recorded double-digit dig totals, led by Amanda Chambers with 24. Kaylee Pratt also had 11 kills while Cassidy Tedeschi finished with ten. Michaela Babineau dished off a team-high 20 assist and had 12 digs for the double-double.
Castleton drops to 4-8 with the losses. The Spartans return to action on Wednesday at 7 pm when they travel to Sage .
