CASTLETON, Vt. – Looking to extend their winning streak to a season-high three, Castleton travels to Elms College tomorrow to face host Elms and Rhode Island College.
The Spartans are coming off a 3-0 victory over Green Mountain to improve to 4-6 on the year. Brittany Brayman and Amanda Chambers provided two-way efforts. Brayman had eight kills, seven digs and three blocks while Chambers added seven kills, 13 digs and three aces. Michaela Babineau added nine assists and six aces.
This year Castleton is averaging 8.67 kills and 14.86 digs per set while hitting 0.091 as a team. Brayman leads the team with 2.31 kills per set and 12 total blocks. Chambers is second 1ith 1.72 kills per set and leads the team with 3.11 digs per set. Kristi Lawless is second on the team with 2.89 digs per set and is one of three players with at least 14 aces (15), along with Michaela Babineau (14) and Shelby Smyth (14).
Elms enters Saturday's matches with a 2-11 record, having won their most recent match to snap an 11-game losing streak. The Blazer dispatched Pine Manor 25-13, 25-20 and 25-15. Christine Searless had 13 digs and ten kills in the win. This year Elms is averaging 6.98 kills and 12.71 digs per set. Searless leads the team with 2.14 kills per set while Alexandra Mack is averaging 1.55 kills and 2.21 digs per set with a team-leading 20 aces.
RIC enters the day with a 3-7 overall record after falling to UMass Boston earlier this week. The Anchormen are averaging 8.6 kills per set and 12.8 digs per set this year. Michelle Malboeuf leads the team with 2.14 kills per set while Lauren Palazzini is right behind her with 2.09 per set. Palazzini is also second on the team in digs (2.20), trailing just Megan Stanzione (2.69), and second in aces.
Castleton has two common opponents with Elms this year. Both teams lost 3-2 to SUNY Cobleskill and the Spartans feel to MCLA 3-1 while the Blazers lost by a 3-2 margin.
