CASTLETON, Vt. – The Spartans look to win their second straight match when they play host to Green Mountain in a non-conference battle on Wednesday evening in Glenbrook Gym.
Castleton is coming off a 1-1 weekend, falling 3-1 to Southern Vt. and then sweeping Lyndon 3-0. The Spartans were dominant against the Hornets, hitting a season-high .171 with 43 kills and 66 digs in the three sets. Brittany Brayman led the team with a double-double of 13 kills and 13 digs while Amanda Chambers had 15 digs and eight kills.
This year the Spartans are 3-6 overall while averaging 8.52 kills per set and 15.00 digs per set. Brayman leads the team with 2.28 kills per set while also averaging 2.10 digs per set. Chambers is second on the team in kills (1.67) and is tied for the team lead in digs (3.0) with Kristi Lawless (3.0). Kaylee Pratt is third in kills (1.54) while Shelby Smyth has done a bit of everything, averaging 3.60 assists and 1.73 digs per set.
Green Mountain enters today with a 1-8 mark overall and has dropped two straight. Last weekend the Eagles were swept 3-0 by both Westfield St. and Bay Path. The team's only win this year came against Maine-Presque Isle by a 3-1 margin. Green Mountain is averaging just 4.97 kills and 10.2 digs per set. Torie Cowell leads the team in kills (1.43) and is tied for second in aces with 11. Madison Wage is averaging 1.40 kills and 1.50 digs per set to go along with 11 aces. Celeste Bowers leads the team with 4.12 digs per set.
Last year Castleton went 2-0 against Green Mountain. The Spartans won 3-1 at home behind ten kills and 11 digs from Brayman and then beat them in conference play by another 3-1 margin. Pratt hit .440 with 13 kills in that match while Chambers had 22 digs and nine kills.
