Castleton Drops Three Setter to MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Castleton volleyball team played tough on Wednesday and nearly took a set as they dropped a 3-0 decision to Mass. College of Liberal Arts in Venable gym.

The Spartans lost 25-17 in the first set but nearly captured sets two and three. Castleton pushed the trailblazers to the edge in the second before falling 28-26 and were just as close in the final set, dropping it 26-24.

Junior Alyssa Sherman (Argyle, N.Y.) led the Spartan offense with four kills while sophomores Nicole Valastro (So. Glens Falls, N.Y.) and Ruth Tomlinson (Huntington, Vt.) each added three. Sherman also had a team-high seven digs.

Sophomore Paige Lacey (Westerly, R.I.) fired five service aces, as five different players had at least three and the team totaled 20 overall. Lacey also had a team-high eight assists.

The loss drops Castleton to 0-4 on the season. The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they travel to take on Bay Path College at 2 p.m.
