Castleton Stumbles at Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Castleton women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to Cobleskill on Monday night in Iorio Gymnasium in three tightly contested sets.

The Spartans dropped the first set 25-16 and fell in their second 25-18. In the final set, Castleton couldn't string together a run of points and lost 25-13.

Despite the loss, the team played tough. The Spartans had a balanced attack as three different players totaled five kills while the team combined for 19 over the three sets. Sophomore Nicole Valastro (So. Glens Falls, N.Y.) led the offense with a .400 attack percentage and five kills while junior Alyssa Sherman (Argyle, N.Y.) also had five kills and hit .500.

Sophomore Paige Lacey (Westerly, R.I.) dished out 13 of the team's 19 assists and also led the squad with four digs on defense. Second-year Sarah Wheeler (Kinderhook, N.Y.) also added two solo blocks and five kills.

Castleton falls to 0-3 with the loss and returns to action on Wednesday when the team travels to play Mass. College of Liberal Arts.
