PAXTON, Mass. – The Castleton women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches over the weekend, falling 3-0 to Bay Path and Anna Maria at the Fuller Center in Paxton, Mass.
In the opener, the Spartans played tough but were unable to come up with the victory losing to the Wildcats 25-18, 25-13 and 25-16. Sophomore Sarah Wheeler (Kinderhook, N.Y.) accounted for ten Castleton points as she led the team with five kills and had a match-high five service aces. Sophomores Paige Lacey (Westerly, R.I.) and Grace Schreiber (Cheshire, Conn.) each added four kills in defeat.
The Spartans came out strong in their second match of the afternoon, falling 25-22 in the first set and again 25-22, despite tying the set at 22 apiece. In the final set, Castleton couldn't muster much of an offense, losing 25-8. Wheeler once again led the offense, tallying five kills on 11 attempts without an error for an impressive .455 attack percentage. Schreiber led the defense with eight digs while sophomore Nicole Vastro (So. Glens Falls, N.Y.) and Lacey each added four.
Castleton falls to 0-6 with the losses and returns to action on Thursday at Green Mountain at 7 p.m.
