Maier and Stearns Earn Points for Women's Track & Field at Penmen Relays

HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Castleton University women's track & field team competed at the Second Annual Penmen Relays hosted by Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday.

The Spartans placed 23rd out of 28 teams in attendance at the event with six points.

Lydia Maier produced Castleton's best finish with a sixth-place performance out of 59 in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.14 to give three points to the team's total.

Ally Stearns was ninth of 37 in the hammer throw for the other three team points with a heave of 42.46 meters (139'4"). Iyanna Williams was 13th in the event at 38.27 meters (125'7"). She was also 19th of 59 in the discus with a personal-best toss of 30.20 meters (99'1").

Ashley Darrell improved upon her own program record in the 5,000-meter run in 21:49.20 to place 19 out of 27 in the event.

Emily Maier clocked in 20th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:11.73. She was also 39th of 49 in the 100-meter hurdles and achieved a personal-best time of 18.25 seconds and placed 69 of 96 in the packed 100-meter dash in 14.68 seconds.

Bronwen Hopwood beat her personal-best in the 100-meter dash with a 38th-place time of 13.87 seconds. She was also 24th in the long jump in the field of 57 with a distance of 4.53 meters (14'10.5").

Ricki Mihulka placed 65th in the 100-meter dash (14.43 seconds) and 29th in the long jump (4.38 meters, 14'4.5").     

After a week off, Castleton is scheduled to return to action with qualified athletes at the Little East Conference Championships hosted by Fitchburg State on April 27.
