Women's Track and Field Opens at Wesleyan Spring Classic

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.– The Castleton women's outdoor track and field team opened its outdoor season at the Wesleyan University Spring Classic on Saturday. 

Ashley Darrell set the school record in the 5,000-meter run with a 19th-place run of 23:01.43.

Bronwen Hopwood placed 12th of 25 in the 100-meter dash in 14.06 seconds. She was also 14th in the field of 35 in the 200-meter dash in 28.70 seconds and placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 4.88 meters (16'0.25).

Emily Maier finished 23rd in the 200-meter dash in 30.17 and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.88 seconds. Ricki Mihulka was 14th in the 100-meter dash in 14.22 seconds and eighth in the long jump with a distance of 4.61 meters (15'1.5").

Iyanna Williams placed seventh out of 21 in the discus with a heave of 27.61 meters (90'7"). She was also 10th of 18 in the hammer throw with a throw of 30.65 meters (100'7"). Ally Stearns placed third in the hammer at 38.85 meters (127'5").

In the high jump, Hannah Coupas placed seventh with a height of 1.42 meters (4'7.75").

The Spartans will return to action on March 30 at the Saints Spring Breaker Open hosted by St. Lawrence University.
