Women's Track & Field Performs Well at Smith College Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Christiana Carmichael set a new school record in the 400-meter dash and Ally Stearns earned a top-five finish in the weight throw to lead the Castleton women's track and field team in its season opener Saturday at the Smith College Invitational.

Carmichael was impressive in the sprints, setting a new school record with an eighth-place time of 1:06.97 in the 400-meter dash. Carmichael clipped her previous school-record mark by over two seconds. Carlie Reen followed closely behind with a time of 1:10.19, just ahead of teammate Kylie Harris, who crossed the line in 1:25.97.

Stearns led the Spartans in the throwing events with a 13.01-meter heave in the weight throw to place third overall out of 19 participants. Brianna Hake (9.99m), Carley Patch (9.89m), and Mariah Jollie (9.44m) finished 10th, 11th, and 12th, respectively.

Patch was the Spartans' top finisher in the shot put, claiming a distance of 9.32 meters to place 14th, just ahead of Stearns in 15th with a distance of 9.26 meters. 

Castleton will return to action Saturday, Dec. 9, to compete in the Rhode Island College Invitational.
