WESTFIELD, Mass. – Brielle DeBaise closed the 2016-17 season Wednesday with a school record-setting performance at the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Westfield State University at Gravel Track.
In the hammer throw, the senior finished in eighth place with a top effort of 43.09 meters (141' 4"), just one inch behind the seventh-place finisher. DeBaise's mark is almost a full half-meter (0.49 meters) further than the previous school record of 42.60 meters she posted on April 30 at the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
DeBaise has been named the team MVP in each of the past two outdoor track and field seasons, ending the year as the outdoor school record holder in the hammer throw, discus throw, and shot put. This season, DeBaise won the NAC title in the discus throw and finished second in the hammer throw, posting the mark that qualified her for the New England and ECAC Division III Championships.
The Castleton women's track and field team finished third at the 2017 NAC Championships and will look to continue its improvement with several top performers expected to return next year.
