CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Ally Stearns proved she belonged at the Division III New England Championships, finishing in the top 15 in the weight throw Saturday at the meet hosted by MIT at the Johnson Athletic Center.
Competing in the first of two flights, Stearns started with a throw of 13.31 meters, followed by a throw of 13.00 meters on her second attempts. On her third effort, she came close to her personal best, posting a mark of 13.35 meters (43' 9.75").
Stearns did not finish in the top nine after three throws, so she did not advance to the finals of the event. However, her top mark was good enough for 14th place out of the 21 competitors.
Stearns and the rest of the Castleton University women's track and field team will start preparing for the outdoor season, with the first competition, the Jim Sheehan Memorial, scheduled for Saturday, April 1, at Fitchburg State in Fitchburg, Mass.
