CASTLETON, Vt. -- Despite a strong effort, the Castleton University women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Plattsburgh State University at the Castleton Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss today, the Spartans fall to 1-1 (0-0 LEC) while the Cardinals improve to 1-1 (0-0 SUNYAC).
Starting off with doubles, the first flight of Megan Nadler and Regina Marchese put up a strong fight and made their opponents work. After holding serve for most of the match, they ultimately lost 8-5 to Rukshana Abdeen and Sarah Hoeffner. The second flight of Emily Miller and Megan Hunt dropped an 8-2 decision while the third flight of Alexis Curley and Grace Sharkey lost 8-4.
In singles play, both Nadler and Marchese won the most games. At first singles, Nadler competed hard and collected five games against Abdeen while Marchese also collected five wins at she fell to Erin Wiggins at fourth singles.
Women's tennis returns to the courts on Saturday, September 7 as it takes on Salem State University to kick off Little East Conference action at 1 p.m.
