LYNDONVILLE, Vt.– The Castleton University women's tennis team began the 2019 season on the road as it took on Northern Vermont University-Lyndon. The Spartans took care of business and swept the Hornets 9-0 to win the season opener.
As the team begins their second season as a member of the Little East Conference, the win today marked the third season in a row where the team started 1-0.
Starting off with doubles action, the Spartans only dropped four games as they took a 3-0 lead heading into singles. The second flight of Emily Miller and Megan Hunt earned a clean sweep as they defeated Faibe Achinda and Rebekah Delgado 8-0.
After taking a commanding lead after doubles play, the Spartans never looked back as they swept singles action with little resistance. Megan Nadler, 2018 Team MVP, earned her 27th career singles win with a 6-0, 6-0 decision against Emilie Dube.
Megan Hunt, Regina Marchese, and Alexi Curley also added 6-0, 6-0 wins to help propel the Spartans to victory. Emily Miller won at the second flight 6-1, 6-1 and Grace Sharkey won 6-1, 6-0 to round out the scoring.
Women's tennis will return to action on Monday, September 2 as it welcomes in Farmingdale State to take on the Rams in a nonconference contest.
