CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team defeated Thomas College in a NEAC East matchup this afternoon by a final score of 6-3.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 6-3 on the season and 3-1 in the NEAC East, while Thomas falls to 2-6 and 1-3 in the conference.
After Thomas notched the first point of the match in first doubles, 8-5, Megan Nadler and Emily Miller came back with a tight 8-6 victory in second doubles to get the Spartans on the board. Jennifer Blay and Alexis Curley followed with an 8-1 win in third doubles and improved to 3-0 on the season, giving the Spartans a 2-1 edge heading into singles.
Ciara Bannister came back in first singles action with a pair of 6-4 wins to raise the Spartans advantage. Kirsten Kruk improved to 7-2 on the season in third singles action with 6-0 and 6-3 victories before Kayla Zsido won in straight sets in fifth singles. Emily Miller rounded out singles action with a pair of 6-1 wins to help secure the victory for the Spartans.
Castleton will return to action at 10 a.m. on Sunday when the Spartans travel to Husson to take on the Eagles in a key conference matchup.
