Women's Tennis Suffers Setback at Plattsburgh State

CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton women's tennis team suffered its third loss of the season to Plattsburgh State this afternoon, by a final score of 9-0.

Just the second loss in the last six games for Castleton shifts the Spartans back to 4-3 on the season, while the Cardinals now improve to 4-3.

Ciara Bannister and Megan Nadler suffered their second loss of the season in doubles action by a final score of 8-2. Kirsten Kruk and Kayla Zsido fell by the same score in second flight doubles, before Jennifer Blay and Monika Plante were defeated 8-0 to give the Cardinals the 3-0 advantage going into singles.

In a thrilling singles matchup matchup, Kruk nearly got the Spartans on the board after taking the first set 7-6 but the Cardinals roared back to take final two matches 6-5 and 10-7 in the tiebreak. The hard-fought loss was just the second of the season for Kruk in third singles as she still sports an impressive 5-2 record. Nadler came up just short in the initial match of No. 2 singles, 7-5, before falling in the second set 6-0.

After Zsido lost the opening match in No. 4 singles, 6-0, the junior fought back in the second match but came up just short 6-4.

Castleton returns back to action at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, when the Spartans travel to MCLA in the second game of a four-game road trip.
