JOHNSON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team ended their conference regular season with a 7-2 win this afternoon at Johnson St.
The Spartans move to 9-2 on the season with the victory, finishing with a 5-2 record in NEAC East play. The loss drops Johnson to 6-6 overall and 4-3 in conference action.
The Spartans got out to an early lead, taking all three doubles matches from the Badgers. The pairing of Meg Susslin and Jackie Lisak earned an 8-1 victory at the top flight, while Ciara Bannister and Kirsten Kruk cruised to an 8-2 win at the two spot. Dianne Benedicto and Gabrielle Welch rounded out doubles play with an 8-5 win at the third flight.
In singles action, Susslin grabbed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Annette Kaminski in the top spot. Lisak took down her opponent in the second flight 6-2, 6-1. Bannister won 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 3 position to extend her singles winning streak to eight consecutive matches for the Spartans, while Kirk took down Nicole Manick in the fifth flight with a 6-3, 6-0 win.
The Spartans are back in action on Thursday evening when they host Green Mountain College. The match is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
