Castleton , Vt. - The Spartans earned a 6-3 win over Northeast Athletic Conference foe Lyndon St. on Sunday afternoon in Castleton to ensure themselves a spot in the NEAC East conference playoffs.
The squad jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles play. Meghan Susslin and Sara Novenstern fell at first doubles by a score of 8-4, but Olga McIntyre and Ruby Bushey earned an 8-6 second doubles win and Kaydeen Juaire teamed with Taylor Reynolds to earn a third doubles win as well.
In singles play, Castleton took flights two through five to earn the 6-3 win. Ruby Bushey earned her fourth win in five matches, taking the fifth singles flight 6-0,6-1. Olga McIntyre extended her winning streak at third singles to six matches with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Her overall singles record improved to 8-2 on the year.
With the victory, Castleton improves to 4-6 on the season and 3-0 within conference play. The Spartans will return to action October 2nd when they travel to Union (N.Y.) for a non-conference tilt.
