Castleton, Vt. - The Spartans won five of six singles flights on against Thomas College on Saturday to earn their first win of the season in come-from-behind fashion.
Castleton found themselves in a 2-1 hole after doubles play. Meghan Susslin and Sara Novenstern fell at first doubles 8-2 while Olga McIntyre and Kaydeen Juaire dropped at 8-6 nailbiter at the second flight. First year players Ruby Bushey and Monika Plante earned their first doubles win at the third flight with an 8-4 victory.
In singles play, Castleton won all but one match to earn the 6-3 victory. Bushey and Plante each earned a second point on the day, with Bushey notching a three-set victory at fourth singles and Plante earning a 6-1, 6-2 win at the sixth flight. Susslin took a tough-luck loss at the top flight, falling in three sets.
With the win, the Spartans move to 1-5 on the season and will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 22 at MCLA.
