LUDLOW, Vt. – With three top 10 finishes, the Castleton women's alpine skiing team placed second in the giant slalom at the Okemo Mountain Resort on Thursday afternoon. It was the first race of the season for the Spartans.
Placing about two seconds behind Babson (6:47.44), the Spartans (6:49.50) and Beavers were separated by more than five seconds from the rest of the competition.
Linn Ljungemo (2nd) topped the boards for Castleton with a time of 2:14.91 as she completed her two runs in splits of 1:06.29 and 1:08.62, respectively. The junior's second run was good enough to clock the top time of all 34 racers.
In fourth, Kylie Mackie completed the course in 2:15.64, while Li Aunes (10th) finished in 2:18.95. The latter was the start of fourth-straight Castleton skiers to cross. Nadine Downing (2:19.08), Megan O'Shea (2:19.38), Elise Luce (2:20.04) and Kirsten Kruk (2:20.15) all completed the two runs about one second apart.
Women's alpine skiing returns to action for the slalom on Friday morning, also at Okemo Mountain Resort.
