NEWRY, Maine – Poor weather and unsafe course conditions led to a shortened day of racing on Friday, as the Castleton men's and women's alpine skiing teams competed in the giant slalom at the NCAA Eastern Championships at Sunday River.
The day's event was called off after the first run, as the initial runs took longer than planned due to rain and soft conditions. With little daylight remaining, officials wrapped up the race following the completion of the first round of racers.
Matt Couture finished 47th out of 86 racers in the men's field with a time of 1:24.85, while Jan Klindic was one of 32 racers that did not finish the course on the day. Erik Brobacke was slated to race, but did not start.
The same racers will compete on Saturday in the slalom at Sunday River.
