Women's Alpine Skiing Finishes Fourth at Whiteface

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Castleton women's alpine skiing team picked up a fourth-place finish out of nine teams in Saturday's giant slalom event at Whiteface Mountain, placing two racers in the top 10 along the way.

Linn Ljungemo paced the Spartan skiers, placing ninth with an overall time of 2:14.22. Rookie Kylie Mackie was right on her heels, finishing 10th overall with a time of 2:14.32.

Caitlin Houston picked up a top-20 finish, clocking in at 2:19.77 for 19th place overall. Emily Burke finished 22nd overall at 2:24.07, while Megan O'Shea placed 24th overall at 2:25.27. Kirsten Kruk was sitting in seventh place after the day's initial runs, but she failed to finish her second run and was bumped from the leaderboard.

Castleton posted a time of 6:48.31 as a team, finishing behind Brown (6:32.93), Babson (6:37.55) and the University of Connecticut (6:41.74), respectively.

Brown's Ali Gunesch was the top racer on the day, pacing the field with a time of 2:09.93, while teammate Natalie Pearl was third overall with a time of 2:11.17. UConn's Alexandra Skovran finished in second place with a time of 2:10.56.

Castleton returns to action next Saturday, competing in the slalom at Crotched Mountain.
