Women's Alpine Skiing Races to Third Place Finish in GS at West Mountain

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – The Castleton women's alpine skiing team came up just short of its second-straight top finish in the giant slalom on Saturday, placing third out of nine teams at West Mountain.

The Spartans posted a team time of 6:53.21, just 1.38 seconds behind No. 1 Brown, which posted a time of 6:51.83 as a team. Babson finished in second place at 6:51.95, while Clarkson finished fourth (6:59.26) and the University of Connecticut (UConn) (6:59.99) rounded out the top five.

Linn Ljungemo followed up her individual giant slalom win last week with a third place finish on Saturday, sitting tied for the top spot after the first run. She was bumped down two slots after her second run, posting a combined score of 1:40.79—less than a quarter of a second off UConn's Alexandra Skovran's pace (1:40.57). Kirsten Kruk tallied a top-five finish for the Spartans as well, placing fifth with a time of 1:41.22 after sitting in third place after the day's first run.

Megan O'Shea continued her strong skiing in her sophomore season, posting a time of 1:45.22 to finish third on the team and 17th overall, while Caitlin Houston had a time of 1:46.06 to finish 22nd—just 0.09 seconds faster than Nadine Downing's 24th place time of 1:46.15. Emily Burke posted a time of 1:48.06 to finish 28th, while Sabrina Easton rounded out Spartan finishers in the top 30 with a time of 1:48.76.

Skovran claimed the top spot for the first time this season for UConn, while Clarkson's Casey Abraham finished second at 1:46.66. Ljungemo rounded out the top-three individual finishers.

Castleton is back in action Sunday at West Mountain for the slalom.
