GREENWOOD, Maine – Castleton women's alpine skiing finished first in the slalom today to claim the program's first-ever USCSA Eastern Regional Championship at Mt. Abram.
The Spartans had four racers finish inside the top ten combined standings en route to their second regional victory of the weekend. Babson followed behind Castleton in the overall standings in second, while Brown, Clarkson and UConn filled out the top five.
Linn Ljungemo paced the squad this afternoon. The freshman turned in a second-place finish with a time of 1:18.50 to finish second overall in the combined standings. Anna-Julia Storch trailed just 0.12 seconds behind in third to claim third overall on the weekend, while Lisa Davis capped off the event in fourth after capturing seventh in the slalom. Simona Croccolo rounded out the squad in eighth to finish sixth in the combined standings.
With the victory, Castleton has qualified for the USCSA National Championships for the fourth consecutive season. Nationals are set to be held on March 8-12 in Lake Placid, N.Y.
