Spartans Drop Road Match at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Castleton University women's rugby team fell to Sacred Heart University, 71-5, on the road Saturday.

The Spartans, still searching for their first win, drop to 0-3 on the season and will travel next to Molloy on Sept. 30.

Savanah Graves led the Spartan defense with 19 tackles, setting a career-high. Julia May had 15 tackles, while Mikaela Phillips had 12.

Kailyn Duff had the lone run of 20 and try of the afternoon for the Spartans.

The Pioneers featured five different players combine for 11 runs of 20. Isabel Buddy and Tiffany Brisbane had three tries each for Sacred Heart, who captured their first win of the year following three consecutive losses to open the campaign.  

After a 34-point opening quarter, Castleton held the Pioneers to just one try in each of the next two quarters, before allowing five tries in the final quarter.
