HENNIKER, N.H. – The Castleton University wrestling team got off to a quick start and dominated throughout on Friday evening, taking down New England College by a final score of 47-9 in dual competition.
The short-handed Spartans move to 5-6 in dual competition this season and have yet to lose to an unranked opponent. Castleton claimed victory in seven of the 10 weight classes, including six wins via fall.
Michael Gonyea (133) got Castleton on the board first with a win via fall in just 34 seconds, giving the Spartans a 6-3 edge after two bouts. Max Tempel followed up with another Spartan win via the pin at the 141, clocking in at 1:36 to push Castleton's lead to 12-3.
After dropping the 149-pound weight class, Castleton returned to the win column as Cameron Milliken (165) picked up a victory via technical fall, 17-1, extending the Spartan lead to 17-9. Castleton closed out the match with four consecutive wins via fall, as Chance LaPier (174), Lucas Morse (184), Mitchell LaFlam (197) and Jesse Webb (285) each made quick work of their opponents en route to victories.
Castleton returns to action on Saturday at noon with a dual match at the University of Southern Maine. Action begins at noon in Gorham, Maine.
