CASTLETON, Vt. – Even though each team was credited with five match victories at the end of the night, Williams College was able to secure more bonus points along the way to defeat Castleton University, 22-19, Friday night in a collegiate wrestling dual match at Glenbrook Gym.
After Matt Morris of Williams earned a major decision victory at 125 pounds, Castleton briefly took the lead in the overall contest, starting with a 4-3 decision victory by Nick Camacho at 133 pounds. Max Tempel defeated his opponent at 141 pounds with a 6-1 decision to put the Spartans on top, 6-4.
Williams (7-10) would take control of the dual by winning the next four matches, including a major decision by Brendon Seyfried at 149 pounds and a pin by Jake Savoca at 157 pounds. After Yo Akiyama took a close decision victory at 165 pounds, Luke Anselmi extended the Ephs' lead to 22-6 with a technical fall victory at 174 pounds.
Mitchell LaFlam stopped the Williams winning streak with a 5-0 decision victory at 184 pounds, and then Cedrick Stephens picked up a 12-0 major decision win at 197 pounds. However, with the Ephs clinching the team victory, they decided to forfeit the 285-pound match to Jesse Webb, creating the final score.
