CHITTENDEN, Vt. – The Castleton University women's nordic ski team hosted and competed at the Castleton University Invitational at the Mountain Top Inn & Resort Nordic Center on Saturday and Sunday. The five competing squads participated in a 10-kilometer skate on Saturday before taking part in the 7.5-kilometer classic discipline on Sunday.
On Saturday, Megan Greene (32:44) paced the Spartans followed by Emily Greene (35:45) and Molly O'Callaghan (37:34) to round out the scoring trio. Megan and Emily Greene crossed the finish line in third and seventh, respectively, while O'Callaghan was 13th.
As a team, Castleton (20) finished second to Clarkson (7), while the University of Vermont (28) and Cornell (28) tied for third.
During the action on day two, Megan Greene raced her way to a first-place finish in the classic. Winning by a mere two seconds, Greene crossed the line in a time of 25:54. Also placing in the top 10, Emily Greene (6th-28:57) and Molly O'Callaghan (7th-29:14) helped secure a second-place result for the Castleton team.
Placing behind Clarkson, Castleton ranked second on both days. In third, UVM was followed by Cornell (40), Skidmore (52) and Hamilton (75).
Women's nordic skiing returns to action on Saturday and Sunday – Feb. 16-17 – as it heads to the North Creek Snow Bowl at Gore Mountain for the Mansfield Division Championships.
