NORTH CREEK, N.Y. – Led by two top-10 finishes, the Castleton University women's Nordic ski team ended up in second place in the official standings Saturday at the ECSC Sprint Championships, held at the Gore Mountain Nordic Center.
Megan Greene led the Spartans, first by winning her quarterfinal heat with a time of 5:28.5. She finished fourth in her semifinal race with a time of 5:32.4, and then she posted her best time of the day, winning the "B" final in 5:27.7 to finish seventh overall in the final individual standings.
Emily Cromie put together a strong effort, starting with a second place finish in her quarterfinal heat in 5:38.5. She finished fifth in her semifinal competition with a mark of 5:49.3, and then she crossed the finish line in third place in the "B" final in 5:47.2 to place ninth overall.
Kaylyn Crompton finished third in her quarterfinal race with a time of 5:59.8, but improved upon that on her second run, posting a mark of 5:53.1 to finish in 14th place. Adrienne Toof did not complete her quarterfinal run, but returned to the course and completed it in 5:57.7 to end up in 30th place.
Ana Witkowski of Clarkson won all three races she competed in, posting a time of 5:10.4 in the final. Clarkson finished first in the official team standings with seven points, followed by Castleton with 19 points, Cornell with 26 points, and Wellesley with 34 points.
The ECSC Regional Championships will conclude Sunday morning, Feb. 25, with the 7.5-kilometer skate event, as the women's competition is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
