LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – With all four Castleton University competitors finishing among the top 11 skiers, the Spartan women's Nordic ski team ended up in second place in the team standings Sunday at the Mansfield Divisionals, held at the Ski Jump Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.
Megan Greene continued her strong weekend of competition, completing the seven-kilometer Classic event in 25:09 for a second place finish, just 16 seconds behind race winner Ana Witkowski of Clarkson and two seconds quicker than Vermont's Allie Skahen.
Kaylyn Crompton also posted a top-10 finish, ending up in eighth place with a time of 27:47. Adrienne Toof finished the course in 28:03, good enough for a 10th place finish but just one second behind the ninth place competitor. Emily Cromie was right behind Toof in 11th place with a time of 28:59.
As a team, Castleton finished in second place with 20 points, behind only Vermont with 13 points thanks to three competitors within the top six. Clarkson finished third with 22 points, while Cornell compiled 39 points for a fourth place finish.
Castleton University heads to Gore Mountain in North Creek, N.Y., next weekend, Feb. 24-25, for the ECSC Regional Championships, where the Spartans look to qualify for the USCSA National Championships held March 6-10 right back at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.
