Women’s Nordic Skiing Finishes Third in Long Distance Event

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – With its three scoring competitors finishing in the top 15, the Castleton University women's Nordic ski team earned a third place finish in Saturday's competition at the Clarkson Invitational, held at Whiteface Mountain.

Megan Greene once again finished as the top Spartan, completing the 15-kilometer event in 1:07:07, good enough for fifth place by 20 seconds. Emily Cromie earned a top-10 finish by six seconds, ending up in 10th place in 1:12:02.

Adrienne Toof finished in 15th place, posting a time of 1:17:07 in the competition. Kaylyn Crompton also landed in the top 20 in the individual standings, finishing in 19th place with a time of 1:20:25.

As a team, the Spartans accumulated 27 points, just enough to finish in third place, one point in front of fourth place Cornell. Led by event winner Ana Witkowski, who put almost a full minute between her and her nearest competitor with a time of 1:03:39, Clarkson earned the team title with 12 points, ahead of second place Vermont with 17 points.

The Clarkson Invitational will conclude Sunday, Jan. 28, back at Whiteface Mountain.
