CASTLETON, Vt. – Five individuals, in addition to the entire Castleton University women's lacrosse team, received national recognition from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Wednesday afternoon.
Seniors Katie Feeney, Erin McKenna and Megan Wood, as well as juniors Emma Best and Erin Shuttle, earned their respective spots on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. To earn the accolade, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. In total, the IWLCA honored 653 student-athletes from 173 different NCAA Division III institutions.
Castleton's five honorees were second most of all Little East Conference schools, trailing Plymouth State's eight. Western Connecticut State placed four individuals on the Honor Roll, while Eastern Connecticut State placed two.
As a team, the Spartans earned a place as an IWLCA Honor Squad, posting a cumulative team GPA of 3.24. To qualify, teams must carry a team GPA of 3.00 or higher for the academic year. Castleton was one of four LEC schools to make the list, joining Plymouth State, University of Southern Maine and Western Connecticut State. A total of 312 schools across all three NCAA divisions and the NAIA earned the recognition, including 153 in Division III alone.
