CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University women's lacrosse team, the North Atlantic Conference champion in each of the last six seasons, has finalized its competition schedule for the 2018 season, featuring eight home matches.
The Spartans open the season with a road game at SUNY Canton Saturday, March 3. Castleton then opens a three-match homestand with the home opener against Western New England Tuesday, March 6, followed by contests against Southern Maine Saturday, March 10, and against the University of New England Monday, March 12.
After a trip to face Worcester State Thursday, March 15, Castleton begins the NAC schedule with a home game against Lyndon Saturday, March 17. The Spartans renew their intrastate rivalry with Norwich on the Cadets' home field Thursday, March 22, and then they return home for a conference match against Colby-Sawyer Saturday, March 24.
A trip to New Hampshire to face Keene State takes place Tuesday, March 27, and then the Spartans host Maine Maritime to close out the month Saturday, March 31. Castleton remains home to face Plymouth State Wednesday, April 4, and then the Spartans head to Bangor, Maine, to face Husson Saturday, April 7.
The home finale takes place Saturday, April 14, against Thomas College, and then Castleton returns to Maine to face Maine-Farmington the following Saturday, April 21. The final regular season game of the season sees the Spartans face New England College Monday, April 23, in a rematch of the 2017 NAC Tournament final, won by Castleton, 14-12, after rallying from a five-goal deficit.
The top six teams in the final NAC regular season standings will qualify for the conference tournament, with the quarterfinals taking place Friday, April 27. The top two seeds will receive a bye and host the semifinals Sunday, April 29, with the championship game scheduled for Saturday, May 5, hosted by the highest remaining seed.
Mark Lange enters his first season as head coach of the Castleton women's lacrosse program, taking over a squad that has won 46 consecutive NAC regular season games as well as all seven NAC Tournaments it has taken part in since 2009. The Spartans welcome back 2017 All-NAC Second Team honorees Emily Cross and Erin McKenna as well as 2017 NAC Tournament MVP Erin Shuttle.
