Women’s Lacrosse Team, Players Honored for Academic Work

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The 2016-17 Castleton University women's lacrosse team has been named an Academic Honor Squad by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), and three members of the team are part of the IWLCA/Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll, announced Wednesday by the national organization.

During the 2016-17 academic year, the Spartan women's lacrosse team combined for a 3.354 grade point average, above the 3.0 GPA minimum needed to qualify for the team award. Castleton is one of 143 Division III teams and one of two squads from the North Atlantic Conference (Maine Maritime) to be recognized.

Recent graduates Sabrina Hosner and Ashley Pelkey as well as Nadine Downing, who completed her junior season, were named to the Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student in 2016-17 and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.

Hosner and Pelkey received their bachelor's degrees in exercise science, while Downing is also an exercise science major. In total, 532 student-athletes from 159 different Division III institutions were named to the IWLCA/Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll.

The IWLCA is a membership-led, professional association representing the nation's intercollegiate women's lacrosse coaches within Division I, II & III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The IWLCA is a 501c(3) nonprofit educational organization.
